Paul Colbridge, 37, from Salford, has apologized for his “moment of madness” when he pleaded guilty to walking onto a pitch at a football match without proper warrant or excuse.

An alleged attack on Olsen in a separate incident during the pitch collapse is still under investigation.

Prosecutor Nick Smart said invasions at Manchester Magistrates’ Court had increased dramatically since the coronavirus pandemic and Colbridge’s actions had provoked Villa fans.

Such behavior, Smart argued, “encourages others to act in a similar way”.

Representing himself, Colbridge said: “It was a stupid act and something I immediately regretted.

“For me it was alcohol.

“The following Monday I went to see someone at the club and emailed an apology. I also apologized on one of the City forums.

“It was a moment of madness. pure exhilaration. I wear my heart on my sleeve.

“I’ve been going to City for around 20 years, I’m a season ticket holder and I’ve never been on the pitch.”

City bounced back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 and retain Liverpool’s Prem crown by a point.

And for going too far with his celebrations, Colbridge has to pay a fine and costs totaling £795.

Thousands of home fans continued to charge after the final whistle on May 22 with players from both sides still on the field.

A few supporters approached Olsen as he ran along the edge of his box – and he soon had to run away.

Bench chairman Wallace Johnson told Colbridge: “What you did was deliberate and blatant.

“They deliberately targeted the Aston Villa players on the pitch.

“They have caused distress and alarm to the players on the pitch, the match officials, the stewards, the fans at the stadium and the spectators at home.”
