A helicopter crash in Alabama has killed two people when a medical plane crashed in Shelby County, near Chelsea

CREWS are on the scene following a fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two people in Alabama.

The helicopter came down on a road near Chelsea, Alabama, in Shelby County, about 20 miles southwest of Birmingham, Sunday night.

Police have confirmed two people were killed in the crash, AL.com reported.

There were three people on board the helicopter.

One was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken to a hospital, where another crew member reportedly died.

“The road is closed in both directions and it is likely that it will be closed for an extended period of time,” the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said tweeted.

“Please avoid this area and allow crime scene personnel to work.”

Social media users sent their congratulations.

“Prayers for the crew and their families,” said one person in one tweet.

Nine people died last week after two military helicopters crashed near Fort Campbell, Kentucky, during a routine training trip.
