AT LEAST nine people died, including five children, and around 20 were injured after a man in a black suit opened fire on students at a school in Russia.
According to Russian media, the gunman was armed with two flare pistols that had been modified to fire live ammunition.
A huge emergency presence was sent to school number 88 in Izhevsk in western Russia’s Udmurt region.
Students are reportedly among the victims of the shooting, including three children, aged 10, 11 and 15.
A terrified girl posted on social media from a classroom as the gunman continued to charge through the school.
“We’re in biology class,” she wrote. “Pulled from class to lab. The whole class sits and cries.
“You don’t tell us anything. Very frightening.”
Some students reportedly escaped by jumping from upstairs windows, injuring themselves.
The shooter is believed to have committed suicide after the fatal shooting spree.
“Currently, the police have found the body of the man who opened fire,” the regional authorities said. “Reports say he committed suicide.”
So far, no motive for the shooting has been given.
The school is located near the center of Izhevsk, about 600 miles east of Moscow.
It has about 982 students and 80 teachers.
