A 15-year-old student dies jumping off the pier at a beach party celebrating the end of GCSEs

A SCHOOLBOY celebrating the end of his GCSE died jumping off a pier at a beach party.
David Ejimofor, 15, jumped 12 feet into the sea in a “coming of age” ceremony with friends after completing his exams.
Police are investigating after David was found in the water less than a mile from his home.
His family said he was “encouraged by friends” to take a dip at high tide on Aberavon beach in Port Talbot, South Wales.
They have started a petition calling for extra security measures at the pier after he died just after 7pm on Monday.
A family statement said it was a “horrific, preventable tragedy.”
They added: “Our dear David still had his life ahead of him.
“He was athletic and very talented in many ways.
“David Ejimofor was not the first to suffer such a fate at the hands of this pier. We don’t want David to be another statistic.
“We want his name to serve as the end of this unfortunate trail.
“For this reason, we are seeking change and reform by improving protections at Aberavon Beach.”
“Had a lifeguard been present at the time, the many minutes wasted searching for a lifeguard could have been saved.”
