An eight-year-old boy has been left with horrific injuries after being mauled by a dog at an unlicensed daycare center.
Connor Aranda was brutally attacked by a Labrador Retriever in Apple Valley, California on Tuesday.
The teenager was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center before being flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
He sustained serious injuries to his chest, face, back and arm when the dog brutally attacked the schoolboy.
Connor had to undergo emergency reconstructive surgery – which left him unable to speak and in excruciating pain.
His devastated mother, Michelle Aranda, told Newstar’s KTLA News that her son has a few more procedures ahead of him.
Describing his injuries, she said: “There are stitches in his mouth, on top of his upper lip.
“His chest had a five inch wound that was about a quarter inch deep. He’s just so sad. He doesn’t want to do anything or even get out of bed.”
Connor had been at the home of an unlicensed daycare provider when the dog pounced on him.
No charges are currently pending against the unnamed owner, but Michelle is considering taking legal action.
The distraught mother added, “I trusted her, trusted that he would be safe there, that all my children would be safe there.”
Connor’s six-year-old sister is said to have witnessed the brutal attack on her older brother.
The state Department of Human Services reportedly said the permit application for the home daycare is pending.
The Labrador was confiscated from the home by San Bernardino Animal Care, who are investigating the incident, before being euthanized.
Connor’s grandmother, Laura Kemp, told reporters the moment she was briefed on the gruesome incident.
She said: “I got a call from my daughter that Connor was attacked by a dog in kindergarten. I ran to pick her up from work.
“My daughter was completely devastated and shaking in absolute fear of the worst.”
Laura explained that the eight-year-old will need several more surgeries and grueling physical therapy to help him along the way to recovery.
She said the incident was “completely inevitable,” adding it was “heartbreaking” to see her grandson suffer.
A GoFundMe has been set up in hopes of helping Connor and loved ones with medical expenses.
It said: “Connor’s mother is a single mother who works full time. She has 2 younger children at home who also rely solely on her.
“We’d like to raise money so Connor’s mother doesn’t have to worry about lost wages and rising bills.
“These children are very special to many people, especially their mother. She has to be there for her and we have to be there for this family.”
The fundraiser has already earned $3,000 off its $10,000 goal.
