8 Facts About Grace and Frankie You May Not Know

Netflix’s longest-running series, Grace and Frankie, will bow on April 29, and fans dread the day. The comedy series has had a great run and I’m pretty sure fans will be very happy with how it all ended.

While Grace and Frankie received mixed reviews from critics, when it first premiered in May 2015, critics began to change their minds as the seasons progressed. No one can deny how funny this original series is. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s comedic timing is at the highest level, and their chemistry is off the charts.

As we fast approach the release date for the final episodes, we’ve started looking at some fun facts about the series. Some of these facts will surprise you and we are very excited to share them with you!

1. Grace and Frankie have had many well-known guest stars

If you’ve watched the comedy series from the start, you know the guest star roster is nothing short of legendary. The show has seen guest appearances from well-known actors such as Lisa Kudrow, Estelle Parsons, Dolly Parton, Rita Moreno, Debbie Allen, George Hamilton, Nicole Richie, Craig T. Nelson, Michael McKean and many others.

2. Grace and Frankie’s intro song could have been another cult song

While we absolutely love the current intro song (“Stuck in the Middle with You” by Grace Potter), it could have been Captain & Tennille’s “Love Will Keep Us Together.” Honestly, any choice would have been fine. Both songs fit the comedy series.

3. Grace and Frankie’s Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have known each other for decades

Jane and Lily may play unlikely friends on the show, but in real life they’ve known each other for a long time. You starred in the comedy along with Dolly Parton 9 to 5and they’ve been close ever since.

4. Grace and Frankie could have gotten together on the show

As reported by Screen Rant, writer Marta Kaufman’s daughter said she had another idea for the show. She wanted Grace and Frankie to have a romantic relationship. Obviously the authors didn’t go with that idea. However, it would have completely changed the trajectory of the show.

5. The role of Grace could have gone to another actress

After a test screening for the show, audiences were not convinced that Jane Fonda was playing the role of Grace. They thought the show would be better without her due to her sometimes aggressive nature. However, the writers had already identified Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin to play the roles and did not want to recast them. That’s a fact about the show that I personally can’t agree with. Who but THE Jane Fonda could play Grace? No one.

6. Jane Fonda takes acting classes for Grace and Frankie

Jane Fonda spoke about how she found it challenging to play the same role over a long period of time. In order to best portray Grace, Fonda began taking acting classes. I mean, it’s always important to know your craft. No matter how long you’ve been in business. Kudos to Fonda!

7. Martin Sheen shares some similarities with his character from Grace and Frankie

In the comedy series, Martin’s character Robert has slowly become an activist after convincing his husband Sol. But in real life, Martin feels very strongly about activism. He has been arrested around 70 times for taking part in various protests.

8. The creator of Friends created Grace and Frankie

Yes, you read it right. Grace and Frankie comes from the same spirit that created the popular sitcom friends. In the past, Marta Kaufman spoke about how to push Grace and Frankie because so successful friends is. However, I think it’s safe to say that the comedy series has done well with a total run of seven seasons.

Get ready for the final episodes of Grace and Frankie Season 7 is coming to Netflix on April 29th!
