MINISTERS deported 500 criminals last month – as many migrants to cross the English Channel in a single day.
A total of 227 foreign criminals and 306 immigration offenders were deported from the UK in September and brought back to countries including Romania and Zimbabwe, the Home Office said.
Among them were 84 criminals from Albania and 21 foreign criminals.
New home secretary Suella Braverman said the government was taking a “zero tolerance approach towards anyone who comes to the UK breaking our laws”.
The total number who have come to the UK via the Channel so far is now more than 32,800 – experts estimate there could be thousands more.
In September alone, a staggering 7,767 people crossed the border.
But as 500 were removed this month, a total of 499 made the perilous journey in small boats as of Thursday, the Defense Department confirmed.
Children wrapped in blankets were taken to safety while other people clutching their belongings in rubbish bags were taken ashore in Dover, Kent.
Crossings resumed yesterday for the second day of this week after a period of bad weather prevented attempts for five days.
