Rajasthan Royals (RR) is the first winner of the Indian Premier League. Playing under the leadership of Shane Warne, the Jaipur-based franchise wrote a perfect story and stunned the Chennai Super Kings in the final to win the 2008 IPL trophy.
Since then, however, the Royals have never had their hands on the trophy. Although the franchise has signed Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane, Jofra Archer, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson and several other stars, RR never became the champion again.
While the names mentioned above played many games for Rajasthan Royals, the following five never got a chance to play for the Jaipur-based IPL franchise despite being part of the team.
#1 Justin Langer – Joined RR in 2008
Current Australian head coach Justin Langer was part of the Rajasthan Royals team that won the 2008 IPL. RR also kept him for the 2009 season, but the Australian never made his IPL debut.
Langer played only one game for the Rajasthan Royals. It was against Middlesex in the British Asian Challenge T20 charity match.
#2 Aakash Chopra – Joined Rajasthan Royals in 2011
Renowned cricket commentator Aakash Chopra has played for two teams during his IPL career. While many fans will remember Chopra representing the Kolkata Knight Riders in the early seasons, not many know that he was even part of the Rajasthan Royals team.
Chopra earned an IPL contract from the Royals in 2011 and stayed with the franchise for two seasons. However, he has never worn an RR shirt on the field.
#3 Deepak Chahar – Joined RR in 2011
Deepak Chahar could have made his IPL debut a decade ago if Rajasthan Royals had picked him in their squad even once in 2011. The right winger has joined the franchise based in Jaipur ahead of the fourth IPL season.
Like Aakash Chopra, Chahar remained part of the RR team for two years but never played a single game for the team.
#4 Paul Collingwood – Joined RR in 2011
Former all-powerful England player Paul Collingwood made his IPL debut for the Delhi Daredevils in 2010. A year later, he earned a contract from the Rajasthan Royals, but did not play a single match for them.
Collingwood was on the RR team during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, but his last appearance in an IPL game came only in 2010.
#5 Dinesh Chandimal – Joined Rajasthan Royals 2012
Sri Lankan tennis player Dinesh Chandimal is yet to play a single match in the IPL. The right-hander received his first IPL contract from Rajasthan Royals in 2021.

However, like the other names on the list, Chandimal did not play a single match while wearing the RR shirt. It would be interesting if he signed up for this year’s big auction and returned to his old franchise after a decade.
