3 Ways to Include Cannabis in Your Favorite Thanksgiving Recipes

Whacky Mac & Cheese with cannabutter

About cannabutter: Butter is one of the most popular ways to infuse cannabis with meals. (Brownies, anyone?) You can make your own or you can purchase several pre-made Sweet Cannabis varieties from Colorado powder manufacturer Infusiam, available at LivWell Enlightening Health and other distribution points statewide. The latter is great because it’s been broken down into 10 milligrams servings. A whole stick (100 milligrams) costs $20. To dilute the recipe dosage, cut the lid off of the can with unsalted butter.

This recipe makes six servings, each with 5 milligrams of THC.


  • 3 slices stevia cannabutter or 1 tablespoon homemade cannabutter, equivalent to 30 milligrams THC
  • 1 pound of pasta
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup braised chicken
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup smoked gouda cheese, chopped
  • 2 ounces goat cheese
  • Salt, black pepper, onion powder and garlic powder to taste
  • BBQ Pringles Grill Sleeve


Preheat oven to 340 degrees. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta according to box instructions until cooked through. (Please note that pasta will continue to cook in the oven.) In a measuring cup, mix milk and chicken stock.

In a medium saucepan, carefully melt the butter so it doesn’t burn. Mix the flour, a little at a time, stirring constantly until a paste is formed. Slowly add the milk and broth mixture and stir constantly until creamy.

Blend the cheese while continuing to stir to create a smooth paste as it melts. Add salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder to taste. Stir to combine.

Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer, stirring occasionally until it starts to bubble and looks thick. Once thickened, remove from heat.

Drain your pasta and return to the pot. Mix three-quarters of the cheese sauce into the pasta and then transfer to a greased baking dish. Pour remaining cheese sauce on top and bake for 15 minutes.

Remove from the oven and cover with a layer of grated BBQ Pringles (you don’t need to use the entire sleeve, but feel free). Return to the oven for 5 minutes, until the dish begins to foam. Serve.

Spherex sells what it calls a dispensary, a small syringe filled with cannabis distillate that can be laced into many dishes. One syringe of Mango Kush distillate contains 765 mg of THC, so literally one drop will do.

About cannabis distillates: Distillation is a concentrated form of cannabis. Note: This substance is very strong, usually reaching 90% THC. Concentration company Spherex sells what they call a milkshake machine ($30), a small syringe filled with THC extract that can be infused into a variety of dishes. A little goes a long way here: One syringe of Mango Kush distillate contains 765 milligrams of THC, so literally one drop will do.

We followed Alton Brown’s chickpea stew recipe, but you can follow your own perennial favorite. Remember that cannabinoids include THC that binds to fats, so as a general rule add the distillate when you’re incorporating the creamy ingredient.

This recipe makes six servings, each with about 6 milligrams of THC.


  • 1 drop Spherex . cannabis distillate
  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 12 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup and a half
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Crispy French Onions


Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add green beans and cook for about 5 minutes. Drain and immediately soak the beans in ice water to prevent them from getting cooked, then set aside.

Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add mushrooms, salt, and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally until mushrooms release liquid and turn brown or tan. Add garlic and nutmeg, and cook for another minute or two until fragrant. Sprinkle flour on top, stir and cook for 1 minute. Add chicken broth and simmer for 1 minute. Reduce heat to medium low and add half and a half.

Heat a beaker of water and submerge the covered distillation flask in it for one minute. This will warm the extract and make it easier to accurately dose the dish. While still warm, carefully squeeze 1 drop of the cannabis extract onto the tip of the butter knife and stir to combine. Cook until mixture thickens, stirring occasionally.

Once thickened, remove the pan from the heat and transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Cover with deep-fried onions and bake for about 15 minutes, until the dish is bubbly.

Whipped Cream of Weed with Cannabis Flower

About flowers: Cannabis flowers or buds are raw plant materials that are harvested and sold as a smoked product. It’s important to note that you can’t just put flowers in a plate and expect to seep into the water. The buds need to be heated to activate THC, a process known as decarboxylation, or “decarbonisation” for short. In the following recipe, the cannabis is seeded during the steeping process, so you don’t need to do anything extra before you combine the ingredients.

This recipe makes 16 ounces of whipped cream with an estimated total of 25 milligrams of THC.


  • 0.5 grams of cannabis flowers
  • 1 cup fresh cream
  • Add cream to cover


Put the cream in a small saucepan. Break the cannabis into small pieces (do not grind) and add to the cream.

Heat the mixture slowly, stirring occasionally.

When the mixture begins to boil, reduce heat to low and partially cover. Continue soaking the cannabis for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Turn off the pot and put the cream in a thermos. Let cool.

Add more cream to the infused cream to form a full cup, replacing what has evaporated.

Pour into the mixer and whip the mixture until desired consistency is achieved.
