3 people arrested after car chase, shooting in Big Spring

BIG SPRING, Texas (Nexstar) – Three people have been arrested by the Big Spring Police Department following an investigation into a car chase that resulted in a shooting.

Around 3 a.m. on January 8, officers were dispatched to N. Birdwell’s 500 block after a vehicle was shot. Upon arrival at the scene, officers contacted several people in a red Dodge Charger who said they were being chased by a black Chevrolet Camaro and a small white touring car. The victims told police that the Camaro driver shot them from inside the vehicle.

According to information published in the newspaper, the shooting caused the driver to be thrown into a concrete pillar. The victims were unharmed, but suffered minor injuries in the collision and were taken to Scenic Mountain Center for treatment.

Investigators said the chase began after an altercation that began at FM 700 and South Gregg Street when occupants of the white touring van shattered the Charger’s front windshield. Driver Charge left the scene and was followed by a small white car. The Camaro driver then joined the chase and opened fire. After the collision, the driver of the Camaro and the white car left the scene.

Police later found the driver and passenger of the two cars and all were taken into custody.

Brittney Jo Hilger, 27, and Jennifer Yanez, 34, were arrested on January 12. Hilger was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Yanez has also been charged with three counts of Serious Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Antonio Pena, 18, was identified as the shooter and arrested January 16. Pena has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Pena was also found in possession of a firearm and charged with Unauthorized possession of a weapon.
