Gunfire erupted after five people got into a fight outside of K County in Carmichaels, Greene County District Attorney David Russo said Thursday.

“As far as we know now there was an altercation earlier in the day, four people in one vehicle and one person in another vehicle. We know gunfire was exchanged between people,” Russo said.

Officials said several people were taken into custody, but there was no word on charges.

“All of a sudden we heard the shots, about 10 or 12 shots,” witness Bernie Curincak said.

“We’re looking towards Circle K and there were three people running,” added Curincak.

Police investigations in the K County parking lot focused on a white car in which several coffee cups appeared to mark bullet casings on the floor. There was a bullet hole in the back of the car and its rear tire had blown out.

Investigators cordoned off a large area around the gas station as they gathered evidence. Police also collected evidence in an alley near the gas station.

Neighbors told KDKA’s Erika Stanish they heard about a dozen gunshots.

There was no word on the victims’ conditions or the motive behind the shooting.
