2023 World Scout Jamboree Korea is facing backlash for “conveniently” stealing headliners from a music festival for their own K-pop concert

The World Scout Jamboree 2023 in Korea is already controversial due to lack of preparation and bringing humiliation to Korea. A recent change in plans for their premier K-pop event adds even more excitement to the event and its coordinators.
The K-pop concert is one of the main events of World Scout Jamboree 2023 in Korea. The concert is called K-Pop Super Live, was originally scheduled to take place at a stadium in Saemangeum on August 6th and be broadcast on KBS1. However, the concert was postponed.

Park BogyunMinister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said in a press conference that they decided to hold the K-pop concert at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium on August 11, the day of the closing ceremony.
After considering factors such as available manpower and transportation conditions, we decided to hold the concert on the 11th, the day of the closing ceremony, at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium.

This change affected the music festival 2023 Jeonju Ultimate Music Festival (JUMF)which was scheduled for August 11-13 – coinciding with the Jamboree’s recently changed concert date.

JUMF found themselves in a difficult situation when they only found out about the coincident dates with the jamboree a week before the event. The organizer of JUMF and director of MBC jeonju, Lee Tae DongHe responded to this in a long statement on his channel, expressing his frustration.
The jamboree closing ceremony and K-pop concert are scheduled for Friday 11th at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium. I’m full of anger It’s not just because we’ve been preparing for the festival in the same city on the same day for a long time. JUMF even rescheduled its event date to match the jamboree schedule.
— Lee Tae Dong, organizer of JUMF

He also criticized the apparent attempt by the organizers of the Jamboree K-pop concert to remove the artists who were already scheduled to perform at the Jamboree JUMF Festival.
Today (6th) the organizers of the jamboree event contacted me. They asked for understanding that they plan to have Friday’s headliners JUMF perform at the closing K-pop concert of Jamboree on the same day – an hour before the festival. I was completely taken aback by her request.

Lee Tae Dong also criticized the lack of consideration given by the coordinators of the Jamboree K-pop concert, who he says were invited JUMF artist for convenience. He felt this was disrespectful to the public buying tickets to see their favorite artists there JUMF Festival.
These artists were announced long ago as the festival’s headliners. Since they are close to the closing ceremony, Jamboree must have thought it easy to invite them. Am I a fool if I’ve been preparing for the success of this festival for over half a year? Are they okay with ignoring a festival in their region just for the sake of convenience? Does a free show disregard the rights of audiences who have come a long way and pay significant costs and expenses to see a team’s performance?

In addition, Lee Tae Dong claimed he invited 5,000 attendees to the World Scout Jamboree to offer comfort to the exhausted children suffering from the heat and poor hygiene at the campsite. However, the Jamboree organizing committee reacted to this suggestion with complete disregard and indifference, even stating that it is considered “illegal” to send children outside of the campsites.

Park Bo Gyun, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said at the press conference that they have accumulated enough experience and expertise in safety management to take the children from Saemangeum to the Jeonju World Cup Stadium, 50 minutes away. In this regard, Lee Tae Dong expressed his concern.
Even on normal days, the distance to Saemangeum is over an hour. It is uncertain how long it will last that day. Regardless of what happens to the kids, they tie the kids hostage to the desolate and harsh land with K-pop, resorting to superficial power and organizational tricks to pretend to succeed with a spectacular show and avoidance of responsibility until to the end.

The headliners for JUMF on August 11 inclusive OH MY GIRL, dream catcher, and other. OH MY GIRL’s agency, World Cup Entertainmentstated that they had not received any contact from the jamboree organizing committee and planned to go ahead with their performance JUMF as planned.
The line-up of artists who will perform at the Jamboree K-pop concert is currently being discussed. It is unclear whether the 11 artists included I HAVE, ZEROBASEONE, NMIXX, STAYC, P1Harmony, &TEAM, Lee Chaeyeonand others originally announced as part of the festival program may perform as originally scheduled.
