1962 Oberlin homicide of Windom Durham

OBERLIN, Ohio (WJW) – The crime scene pictures are black and white. Newspaper articles that had been clipped and saved within the case file are actually yellow.

A number of the detectives engaged on the Nov. 2, 1962 homicide of Windom Durham, of Oberlin, weren’t even born when the crime was dedicated.

“He deserves justice,” mentioned BCI Particular Agent Lindsay Mussell. “It’s as much as us to advocate for him and proceed to pursue justice.”

Oberlin police detectives requested members of the Ohio Bureau of Prison Investigation’s Chilly Case Unit, which was fashioned by Ohio Lawyer Normal Dave Yost in 2020, to work with them on Durham’s case. Investigators mentioned they’re hoping new expertise could possibly assist cause them to the killer.

Police mentioned Durham was 77-years-old when he was severely crushed throughout a theft at his house.

“He was certain and gagged,” Mussell mentioned.  “He was crushed and left to die on the ground.”

He lived alone and is buried in an unmarked grave at Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin. His spouse and brother died earlier than him.

Investigators mentioned they’re hoping somebody could have talked concerning the crime over time. 

“Oberlin is a small city, he was well-known locally, “ Mussell mentioned. “We hope somebody could recall conversations about this case.”
