12 minutes is the “most retired” game of 2021

12 minutes is the most retirement match of 2021, according to a listing posted by HowLongToBeat.
A retired game is a game where the player started, but gave up or quit before the end. By this definition, 12 Minutes is the game that most players start and stop in 2021, you know, equal.
In second place we have Loop Hero, which makes sense when you consider it a game you really can’t “beat” in the traditional sense. Then we have The Ascent, which received positive reviews but lost a lot of buzz after its release.
Then we have Outriders, which was a huge hit when it first released, but seems to have been quickly discovered to have too many server and gameplay issues. At the halfway point is The Medium, which has seen mixed reception at launch, although those who have stuck with it really seem to enjoy it.
In sixth place is Returnal, which, while great, is launched without a save system, a finishing blow to such a difficult game. Next up is Oddworld Soulstorm, which was released for free on PlayStation Plus and has had major updates and revisions since its initial launch.
In the last few points we have Back 4 Blood, Cyber Shadow and Biomutant, all of which resonated well when they launched, but seem to have been phased out pretty quickly.
The interesting way, HowLongToBeat Releases Second List of Retirement Rates, said, “Due to some discussion around the final retirement listing, we have posted this new listing proportionally. Finally a slight popularity contest resulted in highly rated titles (Medium and 12 Minutes) making the list. “
This new list removes Returnal, The Medium, and 12 Minutes, and games like Genesis Noir, Cris Tales, Sable, and Omno will appear on the list instead. It looks like the first list released took into account player counts for each game, meaning more popular titles like Returnal and 12 Minutes were also cut.
