100 players brave “Million Dollar Island” in the NBC reality competition

ABC is working with Studio Lambert to send 100 players there Million Dollar Islandin a new adventure reality competition.

Based on a Dutch format (premiering this March), Million Dollar Island (working title) is described as “a high-stakes social experiment in which 100 participants must forge friendships and form alliances while planning to stay on a remote desert island for up to 50 days and for their share of the ultimate $1 million to compete price.”

How to go about amassing that cool million? Well, upon arrival, each participant will receive a $10,000 bracelet. During their time on the island, players win and lose bracelets through various challenges – and when a player leaves the island, they must decide who gets their share of the money.

“In this intense competition, the strength of your personal bonds is just as important as being the ultimate player,” NBC tells us.

“We’re excited to be working with a high-performing team to bring this fresh and bold social experiment to NBC,” said Jenny Groom, NBC’s EVP of alternative programming, in a statement. “With ever-evolving alliances, trust, deceit, and the ultimate will to survive, this series is sure to entertain.”

Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, added, “We’re thrilled to be doing this big new format for NBC. The storytelling and strategy combined with a breathtakingly beautiful and remote landscape will provide viewers with an immersive competition.”

Million Dollar Island is believed to be on track to debut in the 2022-23 TV season.
